Vitor Belfort fights in February but Anderson not definite
Vitor Belfort made a spectacular return to Ultimate Fighting Championship devastating Rich Frank at the main event of UFC 103 in the first round. After that, huge expectation was created about a Brazilian match against middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
But Anderson underwent elbow surgery and his camp stated he couldn’t start training in December and the Spider still hasn’t been given the all-clear from doctors to plan his return to the Octagon. “Only the doctor will say when Anderson will fight,” says his coach Josuel Distak.
Meantime, Belfort surprised everyone last Friday by inviting Kendall Grove to join him in his training camp as he prepares for a fight with Anderson. Belfort wrote, “Good to hear from you… I will fight Anderson so if you can help partner with me please will be great.”
But Belfort also says he is not 100% definite that he will be fighting Silva in his next outing. He told Terra magazine, “I’m waiting on the UFC to decide my opponent. But I will fight on February 6th. I don’t know whether is it against Anderson, though. That’s that thing, we never know nothing in the UFC. The things go on and we don’t know. I signed to fight in February and they already warned me about it.”
“The opponent is changed near the time of the fight. Tito Ortiz recently had his adversary changed close to fight. We have to be prepared the whole time. Anything can happen in the UFC but I don’t plan to move up to the light-heavyweight divison.”
