Maia Wants title shot: I woud not let title fight go to a decision

Demian Maia has talked about the UFC middleweight title belt again, this time stating that a title fight for him would be a ‘do or die’ attempt.
“When I fight for the title, I get out from there as the champion before the time is up, or my opponent does. I won’t let the fight go to a decision,” he told Super Lutas.
The current middleweight boss is Anderson Silva and the champion had sharp words for Maia recently, criticising him and calling him “pretentious” for talking about a title shot.
Maia has not seen the TV show in which Silva had these harsh words for him. “I didn’t watch the program. I neither watch fights nor the news,” he said. He has heard second-hand what Silva said, but still complimented the champion.
“I think Anderson always had a good defence of takedowns and good jiu jitsu. He is the man to be beat. He has improved his game like everybody,” was his assessment of Silva v Leites at UFC 97.
Maia also enjoyed the fight between Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua and Chuck Liddell on that card, with his fellow Brazilian scoring an impressive KO win in the first round. Maia has been coaching Rua in jiu jitsu, and was pleased with what he saw.
“I saw the fight and liked it so much. Shogun is a very talented fighter that learns everything that I teach him too fast! He had trained hard in Sao Paulo. It was great for him that he had left Curitiba [for his training camp] because here it’s only training, home, food and concentration which, when combined with his ability, I was almost sure that he would win the fight.”
Wanderlei Silva is another MMA friend who practices his jiu jitsu with Maia, widely considered one of the foremost BJJ practitioners in mixed martial arts today.
“I expect an excellent fight like all of Wanderlei’s, and I think he will be the victor, because he has a strong style and if it some accident doesn’t happen – like a punch square in the chin or something else – I believe in his capacity”
